Cat Age Chart: Cat Years to Human Years
This cat age chart shows your cat's age in human years for every age from 1 to 20. It uses the conversion from the AAHA/AAFP feline life-stage guidelines — 15 human years for year one, 24 by year two, then 4 more per year — not the debunked "multiply by 7" rule.

How to Read the Chart
Find your cat's age in the left column; the right column is the human-year equivalent. Because cats vary so little in body size, one column covers every breed — unlike the dog age chart, which needs four size columns. A few landmarks help with reading it:
- Age 1 — 15 human years: the fast kitten year is done.
- Age 2 — 24 human years: a fully mature young adult.
- Ages 3 to 10 — steady adulthood, gaining 4 human years per year.
- Age 11 and up — senior years (about 60+ in human terms).
If your cat's age falls between two rows, or you want months handled for you, use the calculator below — or get the full method and life-stage detail on the main cat age calculator page. Just want the three conversion steps? See the cat years to human years converter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Find your cat’s age in the left column and read across: the right column is your cat’s approximate age in human years. Ages 1 through 10 are adult years, and 11 onward are senior years under the AAHA/AAFP guidelines.
Cat aging does not vary meaningfully by size or breed, so one conversion curve covers all cats. Dog charts need separate columns because small and giant dogs age at very different rates after age two.
Interpolate: a 3 year 6 month cat is the year-3 value (28) plus half of the next year’s increment (+2), so about 30 human years. The calculator below handles these partial years automatically.
The table starts at age 1 (15 human years), but the conversion scales within the first year — a 6 month old kitten is roughly 7 to 8 in human years. Enter months in the calculator below for a kitten-specific result.
