How the Age Gap Is Computed
The calculator first orders the two dates of birth, then subtracts the earlier from the later field by field: days, then months, then years. Whenever a field goes negative, it borrows from the unit above — and crucially, it borrows the real length of the month being crossed, since months range from 28 to 31 days. That is the same long-subtraction style borrowing you learned in school, applied to the calendar.
This is why the exact gap can differ from naive year subtraction. Two people born in December 1990 and January 1993 are 2 years and about 1 month apart, even though 1993 − 1990 = 3. The total-days figure removes the ambiguity entirely: it is the raw count of days between the two birth dates, unaffected by how long any particular month happens to be.
