Why this list exists

Roughly 60% of English letters in running text are vowels — A, E, I, O, U. Drawing a Scrabble rack of seven consonants is statistically unusual but happens often enough that every serious player needs a strategy. The words above are that strategy: short, often interjection-coded (PSST, SHH, TSK), but tournament-legal and worth the play when you're stuck.

How Y works here

Y is a sometimes-vowel — silent in WHY, vowel-like in MYTH, consonant in YES. The Scrabble dictionaries treat Y as a consonant for the purposes of word legality but allow it to carry syllables. The list splits on this: "No vowels, including no Y" is the strictest set (BRR, CWM, HMM, PFFT, SH). "No vowels, but using Y" is the broader set where Y stands in (BY, CRY, RHYTHM, SYZYGY, GYPSY) — these are usually the more useful plays.

The standout entries

CRWTH and CWM are the famous ones — both are Welsh-origin loanwords playable in Scrabble. CRWTH is a Welsh stringed instrument. CWM is a steep-walled valley.

RHYTHM, RHYTHMS, SYZYGY, and NYMPHS are the longest entries that include Y — useful both as Scrabble plays and as Wordle solutions.

TSKTSKS at seven letters is the longest entirely-consonant word, the plural of TSKTSK (an expression of disapproval). It's a 7-letter consonant-only word — extremely rare in tournament play but tournament-legal.

What's the longest word with no vowels?

TSKTSKS at 7 letters is the longest Scrabble-legal word with no vowels at all (including no Y) — it's the plural of TSKTSK, an interjection of disapproval. With Y allowed, RHYTHMS (7 letters) and SYZYGY (6 letters) are common picks. NYMPHS and CRYPTS are both 6-letter no-vowel-but-Y words.

Is CWM a real Scrabble word?

Yes. CWM is a Welsh-origin word for a steep-walled hollow on a mountainside, valid in both TWL and SOWPODS. Its plural CWMS is also valid. Along with CRWTH (a Welsh stringed instrument), it's one of the most famous all-consonant Scrabble plays.
