Etymology

From "gold, from dari-, , golden (compare {{cog, ae, 𐬰𐬀𐬌𐬭𐬌, , tr=zaⁱri-, yellowish, golden"), ultimately from {{der, en, ine-pro, *ǵʰelh₃-, , gleam, yellow}}. Compare {{cog, arc, דריכונא, tr=drykwnʾ}}, {{cog, syc, ܕܪܝܟܘܢܐ, tr=drykwnʾ}}, {{cog, hbo, אֲדַרְכּוֹן, tr=adarkon}} and {{cog, xpr, 𐫅𐫀𐫡𐫏𐫃, tr=dʾryg, ts=dārīg, t=gold coin, Dareikos, sc=Mani}}. {{doublet, en, gold, yellow}}. Considered by classical authors to be from Δαρεῖος, , darius who standardized the coinage as such, but this is a folk etymology.
