Printable Anagram Worksheets

Welcome to our Printable Anagram Worksheets tool! This tool has a host of printable anagram worksheets you can distribute in your classroom - whether you’re looking for a farm animal puzzle for your kindergarteners or a planetary worksheet for your high schoolers. We also have a tool that allows you to customize your own unique anagram worksheet. Read on to learn more about how to use our tool.

How to Use the Printable Anagram Worksheets

  1. Our tool has two types of worksheets: premade worksheets and completely customizable designs. For the premade worksheets, click in the sidebar on the left, first selecting your desired age level. This will allow you to sort worksheets by level of difficulty, ensuring you don’t accidentally give an adult-level puzzle to five-year-olds.
  2. Choose your category. Under each age group, we have various categories into which the themes of our puzzles fit. For instance, we have an animal category, a holiday category, a science category, a seasonal category, and a miscellaneous category, to name a few. Click the category which describes the subject of the puzzle you’re searching for. For instance, if you’re looking for an astronomy puzzle to help your students practice their knowledge of the solar system, click the science category.
  3. Select the scramble you would like to use. For instance, under the holidays category, we have scramble options such as a Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Valentine’s Day scramble.
  4. Customize the scramble as you see fit. Once you select your scramble, you will have the option to customize the scramble. While all the words and scrambled letters will be pre-loaded, this page will allow you to customize the worksheet for your students’ needs. For instance, you can retitle the scramble, change or delete the description, add a footer text to the bottom of the page, and decide which page features you would like to have included, including numbering on the scrambled letters, a page border, and a name and date section.

Benefits of Using Printable Anagram Worksheets in Your Classroom

Though they might seem outside the norm of traditional educational tools, especially for high-schoolers or other older students, anagram worksheets can be a great way for students to practice their knowledge while remaining both engaged and entertained. Studies have shown that repetition is one of the best ways to help students memorize information, whether complex or simple. Anagram worksheets can thus be a great way to help students remember their vocab lists or other new terms or objects they’ve learned.

For instance, you might be interested in using our Planets worksheet to help your students during their space unit. Our Planets worksheet lists the different planets and asks students to unscramble them. Though this may feel like ‘giving’ your students the answers, the act of unscrambling forces them to remember the planet’s names – which can be complex, given that the planets are named after Roman gods, and so their names are not necessarily in a kid’s everyday vernacular.

Another good use for these worksheets is spelling practice. Anagram worksheets can offer a unique stepping stone between having no idea how to spell a word and knowing exactly how to spell it. It can be hard to help students learn how to spell specific words, outside of doing mock spelling quizzes or using flashcards. But these techniques can be unrealistic for a teacher trying to teach a whole classroom of students, some of whom may be at different levels in terms of understanding. An anagram worksheet is a great way for students to challenge themselves at their own pace. Then, once everyone has completed their worksheets, you can go over the answers as a class, like the answers to a quiz.
