Romeo And Juliet Summary

Romeo and Juliet is a play written by William Shakespeare, about two lovers who cannot be together because of their families conflict. The story is set in Verona, Italy, in the 1500s. The story begins with members of the Montague family and the Capulet family fighting, the prince threatens execution if their family's fight again. We are then introduced to Romeo, who is sad because his crush, Rosaline, doesn't love him back. Then, Romeo's friend, Mercutio invites him to a masquerade ball. Although, Romeo does not know the ball is being hosted by the Capulets. He meets Juliet, and they fall in love with each other instantly. After the party, Romeo climbs up to Juliets balcony to confess his feelings to her. As he leaves, he promises to arrange a secret marriage, and for Juliet to let her nurse know the details the next morning. Friar Laurence gets Romeo and Juliet married immediately. Then, Juliet's cousin, Tybalt challenges Romeo to a duel. Romeo doesn't want to fight, but Mercutio takes his place instead. As Romeo tries to break them up, Tybalt kills Mercutio. Because Tybalt killed his friend, Romeo is angered, and kills Tybalt. The prince arrives, and instead of executing him, he banishes Romeo instead.  NOUN
