Within the ADJECTIVE populated scholarship of Roger D. Abrahams no NOUN lifts its NOUN more frequently than the NOUN. This paper traces the ADJECTIVE and ADJECTIVE migrations of this useful troublesome animal from PLACE to PLACE and back again, emphasizing Catalonia and the American South. Following Abrahams' conception of "deep stereotyping," itself PAST TENSE VERB from GROUP OF PEOPLE accounts of personhood and its denial, I identify the NOUN as a figure of the folk in the modern nation-state : ADJECTIVE, ADJECTIVE, ADVERB ADJECTIVE, conscripted into forced labor, ultimately abandoned to run feral: the folk
