a fictional race dark elfTranslations
Finnish: drow, musta haltiaEtymology
A Shetlandic and Orcadian alteration of trow, most likely influenced by an unattested {{etyl, nrn, en}} *drog, , malevolent [undead] being. Trow is derived from {{etyl, nrn, en}} troll, or otherwise from {{etyl, non, en}} trǫll. L-vocalisation occurred in the early 15th century in Middle Scots, so "troll, trolly knoll, knolls" probably became "trowie knowes" around this time. The supposed Norn *drog would have been derived from {{etyl, non, en}} draugr.Anagrams
